BRISTOL’s contribution to GOETE

Bristol divides the UK part of the empirical research within GOETE with Queens University of Belfast. Bristol will carry out data collection for the comparison of teacher training (WP 3) and the institutional survey (WP 5). While collaborating with Belfast on the case studies (WP 6), analysis (WP 8) and dissemination (WP 9), it will carry out and be work package leader for the high-level governance analysis (WP 7). Roger Dale will be member of the steering committee.

Previous experience relevant to the tasks

The GSE hosts several major externally funded research projects. Of particular relevance to the proposed project are the major ESRC Research Centre LLAKES (Learning and Life Chances in Knowledge Economies and Societies); the Erasmus Thematic Network, GENIE (Globalisation and Europeanisation Network in Education) focussing on governance of education in Europe; the UK Department for International Development project, ‘Globalisation, Development and Education’; the EU’s Network of Experts in Social Science and Education (NESSE). GES also edits a journal titled Globalisation, Education and Societies.

Roger Dale

Professor of Education, Unit Head, Scientific Coordinator of the EU’s Network of Experts in Social Science and Education (NESSE). Research interest: globalisation, European educational governance, education policy, international organizations, critical policy analysis.

 

Susan Robertson

Professor of Education, Coordinator of GES. Her research themes are globalisation, regionalisation, education policy, knowledge economy and teachers' labour.
